You should only need the Zone-2 if you plan on using two sound devices connected to the same display, with each of those devices only accepting one of the two formats (HDMI audio and eARC audio). To be honest, now that I think of it, I also have an nvidia shield tv pro connected over hdmi which doesn't have any av sync problems (sharc fixed these) so to say the CX has problems with Earc/arc output isn't strictly true.
